Back in 2007, the City of Shoreline allowed multi-cottage developments — a bold and forward-thinking approach to city planning.

I had the opportunity to build a unique community of detached 1,000 sq ft cottages, each with its own garage and a shared central green space.

The homes sold quickly and still stand today as a great example of innovative design that adds housing without changing the character of the neighborhood.

Even though Shoreline no longer allows these types of projects, the lessons still matter for homeowners today.

Projects like this prove you can get more than just a small home—you gain a smart design that feels spacious, a neighborhood that feels connected, and a property that grows in value over time.

It’s about turning every square foot into something useful, and making sure your investment pays off—not just now, but for years to come.
